Individual Therapy
Dr. Althaus provides a safe, comfortable, yet challenging space in which clients can emotionally explore and work to create desired change. She integrates relational, psychodynamic, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approaches in order to address each client's individual needs. She works collaboratively with her clients to establish goals for the course of their work together.

Couples Therapy
Dr. Althaus enjoys supporting couples in developing a more fulfilling and authentic connection. She helps them to identify unhealthy patterns of relating and assists them in developing new, positive patterns of interaction. She works with couples to improve effective communication and increase mindfulness in the relationship. Additionally, Dr. Althaus guides couples in identifying individual intimacy needs and increasing their empathy for each other.

Mindfulness Skills
Dr. Althaus helps individuals and couples develop mindfulness skills and integrate them into daily living.  Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment—and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element in stress reduction and overall happiness. Practicing mindfulness can bring improvements in both physical and psychological symptoms. Generally, mindfulness helps shift your thoughts away from your usual preoccupations toward an appreciation of the moment and a larger perspective on life.
